Did some playing around with the podcast searching tools and saw lots of interesting things!! I ended up subscribing to a podcast called ipod traveler http://www.podfeed.net/podcast/iPod+Traveller/2454

Now I can see why my kids are so wrapped up in itunes!!

YouTube

Youtube has long been a source of humorous videos. I hadn't realized that I could search it for more professional uses. I found this link of a blonde in a library particularly funny!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DctVteQDRIM I also really enjoyed this video on searching strategies from a student persective. Although it never talks about subject headings per se, it's a nice explanation fo boolean logic and key concepts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa66AxTbjxA

I will definately use this more. I also enjoyed one of our poster's link to a video in a teacher's site on how to do a good powerpoint.

office tools

It was fun playing around with these office tools. Of course, they were very easy to use given the common features with MS tools. I developed a calendar that I sent to all of our resource center volunteers.Now they can make changes to the calendar themselves and see when others are scheduled. My major concerns are the same as every one's-- security.

flickr

I have long used flicker as an aid in all of our travel planning. We often get a really good feel for what a place looks like ( and what shot we want to get!) by reviewing flickr tags for our intended location. I myself have been using the free Picassa photo storing service but I signed up for flickr and will certainly look into it. Here's a link to a photo on flickr that I found particularly compelling:

Wikis

I too really liked David Rothman's list of wikis. There are a number that I will add to my nursing research blog and to my medical library website. One thing though that I found disappointing is I would see a wiki devoted to teaching EBM and then go in to a section specific to just what I am looking for and discover that no one has written anything in that area. Like many new activities, it's hard to keep the momentum going.

RSS readers

I have been using the bloglines reader for quite some time and find it really useful. My biggest problem is developing a steady habit or checking it every day!! Guess it's still not ingrained enough in "us oldies" as reading the paper is. I follow a lot of my personal interests, travel, dancing, reading as well as my many professional interests. We've had an information piece on our website about RSS for some time and try to demonstrate it's capabilities when teaching classes. One thing I didn't realize is that this could be used for alerts to web site updates-- I thought it was exclusively for blogs!!

Wow--- I got a little behind here to say the least. My excuses: a trip to New Mexico followed by a car accident. Fortunately we weren't hurt more than whiplash which was pretty amazing as we were at a complete standstill and hit at 60 mph. Anyway, the delicious tutorials really explained a lot to me. I had seen the logo everywhere but didn't really understand the ramifications. It was interesting to see the number of people who had tagged my nursing research blog. Now I will spend time dwelving into their bookmarks. The interconnectness is amazing!!
